The Best 10 Ways to Cope With Stress in the Workplace

How to Cope With Stress in the Workplace: Look for fresh ideas

Did you know your failure to control your stress in the workplace can adversely affect your health? In fact, it can even kill you!

Yes!

Stress can increase your risk of getting heart disease which, according to the World Health Organization, is the leading cause of death worldwide.

So what can you do to cope with stress in the workplace?

What can you do to manage yourself so that you can avoid getting too stressed out because of the mountains of files you have to work on in your workplace every day?

What can you do to manage the negative feelings you experience because your over-demanding boss will not let you have peace of mind?

How can you deal with the anger that you experience often because your co-workers, or a difficult client, irritate and annoy you on a constant basis?

In this article, I want to share some coping tips and strategies with you that will help you to manage the stress and mental anguish you may be going through in your workplace.

1.    Affirm Your Personal Values To Yourself

Research done by scientists at the Department of Psychology of the University of California, and published by the US National Library of Medicine, suggests that reminding yourself of the values that are dear to you can help one to cope with stress.

The study revealed that the bodies of participants who affirmed their personal values produced significantly lower levels of the stress hormone cortisol than participants who did not.

2.    Remind Yourself Often That You Are Not Perfect

Sometimes your mindset can help to make stress worse. You say to yourself that you must produce perfect, or near-perfect work. Thinking in such a manner can make you put yourself under extra-pressure, and that can drain you emotionally and psychologically.

So remind yourself often that all you need to do is to give your best to any situation, and that making mistakes can give you an opportunity to learn and mature. It will help you to avoid “creating mountains out of anthills” so that you can feel relaxed.

3.    Play Video Games During Breaks

Research done by scientists at the University of Central Florida has revealed that when workers play video games during breaks, it helps them to effectively deal with stress at the workplace.

Doing a fun activity such as playing a video game can help to distract you mentally and help you to relax your mind and recharge.

Furthermore, the positive emotions that activity will generate in your body will help to reduce inflammation in your body. According to some medical doctors, inflammation in the body makes one feel more stressed out.

4.    Remind Yourself Of Past Successes

Remind yourself of strategies you used to deal with similar situation in the past, when you start feeling overwhelmed.

Doing that will remind you that you are a capable, competent worker who has the ability to deal with seemingly tough situations. That reinforcement of personal self-worth will boost your confidence, which in turn can help you to calm down.

5.  Use The Power Of Your Brain
